Standard Liege take on the visitors Genk at “Stade Maurice Dufrasne” in the second round of the Belgian Jupiler League of 2017/2018 season. The game will be played in Liege on Friday, August 4th.
Standard Liege failed last season staying out of a battle for the medals. This summer the side from Liege has shown solid football, having earned six victories, two draws and single defeat in nine friendly encounters. This summer Genk have spent more than 10 million EUR for the football players’ trio: Ruslan Malinovsky, Joseph Aidoo and Marcus Ingvartsen which has to enforce the side, bearing in mind that the club won’t participate in the Eurocups this season. Genk gained four victories and a draw in five games during the summer. This season both Standard Liege and Genk set ambitious tasks in the Jupiler League. The draws in the starting gameweek were not in both teams’ plans, therefore, I believe that they will strive for getting a victory in the second round so that not to lose too many points in the start of the season already.
