Spartak Moscow take on the visitors Lokomotiv Moscow at “Otkrytiye Arena” in the match for the Russian Super Cup. The game will be played in Moscow on Friday, July 14th.
Spartak Moscow triumphantly ended last season by having taken the champion’s title of the Russian Premier League after a durable break. Last season Lokomotiv Moscow have proved their status of the cup fighter by gaining another Russian Cup. In the Russian Premier League “Zheleznodorozhniki” occupied the eighth place in the table with 42 points earned and 39-27 goal difference. In summer Yuri Semin’s side participated in three friendly encounters: it was beaten by Rijeka 0:1, got 1:1 draw against Rudar and thrashed Ankaran Hrvatini with 10:0 scoreline. In regard to their roster, Lokomotiv Moscow have strengthened their defense by engaging Nikita Medvedev from FK Rostov and Solomon Kvirkvelia from Rubin Kazan. Meanwhile there were numerous transfers out of the club: Ilya Abaev, Renat Yanbaev, Maicon, Roman Shishkin, Petar Skuletic and Igor Portnyagin. However, none of the mentioned above players was treated by Yuri Semin as the line-up performer of “Zheleznodorozhniki”.
The fight for the Super Cup will open a new football season in Russia. In recent years not many goals were combined by the opponents in the head-to-heads between Spartak Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow. Both rivals focus on defense, thus in their first official game of the season, especially, when there is a chance of winning the trophy, they are unlikely to show “open” football.
