Rennes take on the visitors Lyon at “Roazhon Park” in the matchday two of the France’s Ligue 1. The game will be played on Friday, August 11th.
Rennes opened a new season with 1:1 draw against Troyes on the road. Taking into account the team’s activity on the transfer market, this draw is rather a failure. Having saved the core players and spent 26 million EUR for the squad’s enforcement, Rennes should have taken maximum points in the clash against the Ligue 1 new-comer even at away turf.

Lyon, in their turn, have changed 50% of the squad: Mathieu Valbuena, Corentin Tolisso, Maxime Gonalons, Alexandre Lacazette, Kristof Zhalle, Maciej Rybus, Emanuel Mammana and Nicolas N’Koulou have left the club this summer. At least six of them were the team’s line-up performers without mentioning that the club was left by its leading players who were sold for the total sum of 123 million EUR. Fernando Marcal, Mariano Diaz, Ferland Mendy, Bertrand Traore, Kenny Tete and Marcelo have joined Lyon to substitute mentioned above performers. These are six players who are to become the team’s main footballers and for whom 37 million EUR were paid. The renewed Lyon entered the new season in the Ligue 1 having easily thrashed Strasbourg 4:0. With such play Lyon must have battled for a place in the UEFA Champions League for which the club couldn’t qualify last season which means money loss.
Lyon have not been broken by Rennes in their last three head-to-heads having earned two draws and a single win. I believe that the visiting side will take another three points as the team looked very solid in the first gameweek.
Prediction for the match: Lyon to win.
