Fiji national football team takes on the visitors New Caledonia national football team at “Churchill Park” in the matchday five of the Round Three of the Oceania Football Confederation’s Preliminary Competition for the FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifying Competition. The match will be played in Lautoka on Wednesday, June 7th.
Fiji has lost both qualification encounters to New Zealand with the same 0:2 scoreline and is currently fighting for the second place in the Group A. In 2017 Fiji participated in four clashes recording two defeats to New Zealand alongside with 1:1 draw and 1:0 triumph against Solomon Islands. In general, the level of Fiji A-team is just like of the whole football in Oceania is very low, excluding Australia and New Zealand.

New Caledonia has also participated in two qualifying games against New Zealand resulting in 0:2 defeat on the road and 0:0 draw at the home field. As a result, the side is sitting on the second place in the Group A with one point taken. In 2017 New Caledonia has not played a match yet. Last season the team got three victories, three draws and three defeats in nine clashes.
Fiji and New Caledonia head-to-heads’ consists of four encounters ending in two draws and two victories of New Caledonia. In the current qualification neither of the teams scored more than three goals and I believe that the opponent won’t combine a lot of goals in the upcoming fight as well. The visitors’ level is a little bit higher but taking into account the home-field advantage this difference must be neglected in favour of Fiji.
Prediction for the match: Under 3.0 scored goals.
