Dynamo Kyiv take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine Supercup. The match will be played in Odessa on Saturday, July 16th.
Shakhtar play their first official match under new manager Paulo Fonseka, who took over the team after Mircea Lucesku departure to Zenit. Donetsk’ side lost the title race to Kyiv giant last season but won the domestic cup. Of course, Shaktar would want to take back the league title this season as the club always set highest goals in domestic competitions. The league winners Dynamo played seven sparring matches during summer offseason, taking six wins over Olimpic, 1-0, Kikkers, 1-0, Ludogorets, 2-1, Dinamo Tbilisi, 2-0, Split, 8-2, CSKA Sofia, 3-0 and drew one match with Botosani, 1-1. The team also didn’t chance a lot this summer and there are only two signings of Hladkiy and Gromov despite numerous rumors that remain rumors for now.
Clashes of Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk are biggest matches in Ukraine. Shakhtar didn’t win the title but thrashed Dynamo twice last season with 3-0 score. Donetsk side couldn’t compete with Dynamo in long league distance but they are still remaining more skilled side and they should prove it one again in upcoming head-to-head.
