Portugal vs France Prediction 10 July 2016

Portugal take on the hosts of the tournament France in the final of Euro 2016. The match will be played in Saint Denis at Stade the France on Sunday, July 10th.

Portugal holds quite ambiguous achievement as they have advanced for the final with only one win recorded after full time. Ronaldo and Co split points in group matches against Iceland, 1-1, Austria, 0-0, and Hungary, 3-3. It was enough to qualify for the knockout stage to face strong Croatia, who won their group and prevailed in the round of 16 match. However, Portugal were lucky to keep the clean sheet and take win in extra time with Quaresma’s header. The quarterfinal match against Poland was another poor performance of the team and the match went to into penalty shootout after 1-1 draw. Portugal were luckier this time too, clinching the place among four best teams of the tournament. The semifinal clash with Wales ended with Portugal first win of the tournament in full time and got the team the place in the final. Santos’ men played well in the group matches but couldn’t get the result they needed while their defensive performance in playoffs came as disappointment but gained them the ticket to the final.

France should thank Italian ref Rizzoli who did his part in helping France beating Germany in the semifinals of Euro. Referee gave France a chance to take a lead with penalty awarded in the very late minutes of the first half. Of course, Bastian shouldn’t have raise hands in the box like that but Evra’s header wasn’t any threat to Neuer’s goal. On the other hand, the referee didn’t notice any fouls in the box of French side, which leaves a bitter aftertaste to this victory. France couldn’t meet high expectation at this tournament and they got their place in the final with favorable draw and referee’s controversial decision in the semifinal.

The opponents have place six head-to-heads in their history. Two of these matches ended with draws and last four were wins of the hosts of tournament, France. The most recent win France took in 2006 in World Cup Semifinals. 1-0. We can expect the opponents to be focused mainly on their defensive lines and avoid mistakes at own half. Considering results and performance of the teams on their way to the final we can expect to see no goal in the 90 minutes of the match.

Prediction for the match: Under 0.5 goals.
