Austria national team take on Hungary in their first match of the European Championship in France. The match will be played at Stade de Bordeaux on Tuesday, June 14^th.

Austria national team showed impressive results in qualifying campaign, taking 29 points in 10 matches and winning their group, finishing ahead of Russia and Sweden, who also qualified for the main stage in France. However, the team don’t show that outstanding results in friendlies, recording two wins and three defeats. Austria have defeated Albania and Malta, both 2-1 and lost to the Netherlands, 0-2 and to Switzerland and Turkey, 1-2 on both matches.

The place in the main stage of the competition is already big achievement for Hungary. Times when Hungary was considered as one of the favorites at any competition are long gone. Hungary played three friendlies in 2016, drawing match with Croatia, 1-1, Ivory Coast, 0-0, and losing to Germany, 0-2.

The opponents played their first head-to-head back in 1934. It was the only match won by Austria. The teams faced one another ten more times since then. Six of these matches ended with Hungary’s win and four other matches were draws. However, Austria proved they are more skilled side and they have solid chances to end this series and record first win over Hungary in last 80 years.
