Japan vs Senegal Prediction 24 June 2018

Japan takes on the visitors Senegal at “Central Stadium” in the matchday two of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia group stage. The game will be played in Yekaterinburg on Sunday, June 24th.

In the opening battle against Colombia Japan looked quite not bad. Although the team was playing in majority, it had no total domination. In the first half Colombia looked better despite being in minority, having even equalised the score while in the second half Japan added up only after the rival started to lose strength.  Thus, the forecasts of the sceptics were true as “Samurai Blue” have brought rather a rough squad. There are many aged footballers in the roster plus the side has some problems with the team play. The team looked inconsistent in the recent friendlies, having gained single victory, a draw and three defeats in them. Besides, Japan produces humble results in the Asian Football Confederation’s Preliminary Competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, having earned six triumphs, two draws and two losses in one group with Thailand, Iraq and United Arab Emirates. The clash against Colombia proved that Japan is not fully ready for this Mundial.

In its turn, Senegal made the best impression of all the African teams so far. There are very many talented players in the squad plus it surprised many with the well-organized game. The side showed high level of organization with maximum of concentration and no improvisation, having fulfilled all the directions of the head coach. Very often the African teams fail because of problems with the discipline, however, it doesn’t about “Les Lions de la Teranga” as almost all players perform in the European top leagues, thus, all of them get used to order and discipline – both at the pitch and beyond. Aliou Cisse has undisputable authority in the team as he used to be the captain of Senegal at the triumphant Mundial 2002. All this gives a good result: at first the side went through a successful Confederation of African Football's Preliminary Competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, having not lost a single battle and then got a victory over Poland in the first round of the group stage. “Les Lions de la Teranga” fully deserved that triumph over the Poles, having shown the utmost pragmatism as despite minor ball possession the Africans surpassed their opponents in goal attempts. The team’s defense made almost no mistakes while on the opponents’ half the Senegalese acted very thoroughly which is without a doubt cause of the performers’ high class.

Senegal surpasses Japan both in team and individual mastery. The visitors’ defense is able to suppress the rival for quite a long time and then rush in and score after a counter attack. The Japanese didn’t show good football although they spent the entire game against Colombia in majority. Thus, I suppose they are unable to beat anyone in this Mundial without such advantage.

Prediction for the match:  Japan to win with 0.0 Asian handicap.
