Ajax take on the visitors Rostov in the first leg of Champions League qualifying matchup. The match will be played at Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday, August 16th.
Ajax lost the battle for the Eredivisie title to PSV and now they have to battle through qualification rounds. The team lost several key players this summer like Milik, Fisher, van der Horn but main loss is departure of their head coach Frank de Boer, who works in Inter now. The club has appointed already Peter Bosz, who will lead the team into new season. Ajax have already passed one qualifying stage, eliminating PAOK, 1-1, 2-1 and took 3-1 win over Sparta Rotterdam in the first round of domestic league.

Rostov lost the man why created the current team last week as Berdyev now work in Spartak Moscow. He was the man who made the difference and now Rostov is completely different team without him. The manager took the team who was mainly involved in relegation battles and made them title contenders and gained the place in eurocups. Rostov suffered their first defeat of the season on weekend, losing away clash to Zenit 2-3. Rostov showed nice football and had a lead but couldn’t hold to advantage after one of their men got sent off.
This will be the first ever head-to-head between the opponents. We can expect Ajax to prevail in the match as Rostov had tough match on weekend and lost their manager, who was the key to their success. Ajax should learn Anderlecht’s mistakes and take win in the home leg.
Prediction for the match: Ajax to win.
