Switzerland face the hosts of the tournament France in the last match of the group stage. The game is taking place at Stade Pierre Mauroy on Sunday, June 19th.
Switzerland have almost guaranteed the place in the playoffs of European Championship 2016. The team has gained four points after 1-1 draw with Romania and 1-0 win over group lowly Albania. Switzerland are currently second in the group and they won’t drop lower than third spot regardless of the results of the round 3. Even third place with four points should get Switzerland place in the round of 16 so the team is under no pressure and can get ready for knockout phase.

Despite two wins in two matches and guaranteed place in the playoffs, France’s performance came as disappointment. The team is talented and expectations of fans from Deschamp’s men were much higher than late wins over mediocre teams. France have six points but the level of football still needs to be improved but there is no time left to make major adjustments. If France is lucky with a draw they might advance for the semifinals, but it’s hard to imagine them to defeat top teams with such football.
Switzerland and France have played six head-to-heads and all of them in 21st century. Three of these matches ended with draws and other three were won by the hosts of the competition, including one in Brazil two years ago, when France won 5-2. However, the opponents show different level of football from what they did two years ago and we shouldn’t expect numerous goals to be scored in this match.
Prediction for the match: Under 3.0 goals.
