Poland take on Portugal in the European Championship quarterfinal clash. The match is taking place in Marseille at Velodrome on Thursday, June 30th.
Poland national team have gained the place in the round of last 8 mainly due to Lucasz Fabianski skills and bad luck of Switzerland team. Poland didn’t show anything spectacular in the previous round and advanced for the next stage after winning penalty shootout after 120 minutes ended with 1-1 draw. Adam Navalka’s team is built of solid players but the manager doesn’t have top players for each position on the pitch. Poland used their chances in the group, beating awful Ukraine and mediocre Northern Ireland while the clash with Germany ended with 0-0 draw. Round of last 16 could’ve ended with opposite result and Poland should be happy to qualify for such late stage.

Portugal national team showed nice attacking football in all three matches of the group stage but failed to win any of them, drawing clashes with Iceland, 1-1, Austria, 0-0 and Hungary, 3-3. Portugal switched their tactics in clash against Croatia in round of 16, playing solid defensive football. Croatia were in each component except goals, failing to beat Portuguese keeper while Ronaldo and Quaresma provided their team with late decider scored on 117th minute. Fernando Santos’ men haven’t taken a single win after full time but managed to advance for the quarterfinals of Euro 2016.
Neither of the teams deserved the place in this stage and they should value opportunity to advance for the semifinals of the competition. Portugal haven’t won a single match so far but they had proved the team knows how to pressure their opponents with attacking football and should finally record their first win in France. On top of that, Portugal is much more experienced in knockout stages have advanced for the semifinals three times in last four European Championships.
